Tyler at two

It's been a long while since I scrapped any of my own children's childhoods. It seems that with the fresh excitement of grandkids, somehow these older gems are buried under the piles of new and fresh. I came across this photo of my oldest son when he was two years old. We were living in a small hamlet on the prairie and these train tracks ran parallel to the town. There weren't too many years before they disappeared all together. The passing of time. Remembering those days with fondness ...

I turned the sketch from  Sketches: Creatively Yours upside down to create my layout.

Why not head on over to the blog and see how the other gals interpreted the sketch. Link up and show us all what you've done!

Tina gave me some of the Winter Twig line of papers from My Little Yellow Bicycle that I thought worked perfectly for this layout. Since the time was almost end of winter in the photo, I thought that the blues and greys worked fabulous with both the season as well as the poignant memories we have of that time and place.

I hope you enjoyed today's layout. Don't forget to check out the links above and have a scrap-happy weekend!

Back to Babies!

I am still working on my grandson's album. Here is a photo that is long over-due to be scrapped. In it, he's about four hours old and enjoying the quiet of night in his momma's arms.

With this layout, I completed all of the Sisterhood of Scrap's Amazing March challenges! For this challenge we were to use the piece of ephemera that you see in the lower left hand corner of the layout. Since I wanted a soft, Victorian-type feel to this layout, it worked perfectly.

Thanks for checking in and have a scrap-happy day!

More sports!

As I mentioned yesterday it was a blah weekend around here. Hubby was more than happy to have a project to work on and cut out this "Hoops" die cut for me using a free .svg file and our Makes the Cut program.

Here's another of my nephews in his team photo. This time it's basketball that takes centre stage!

Using the Moxxie "Nothin but Net" paper from Tina and some of those adorable eyelet outlet brads, this page came together quick and easy (thanks to hubby's die cut!)

Soccer!

Tina gave me some sports papers to work with recently. Since it's been so long since my own kids played, I had to call on the relatives for some photos. My sister's husband came through with a few wonderful photos of their boys' team photos.

It was a grey, blah weekend so had hubby turn loose his Makes The Cut program for our Cricut and make me some die cuts to compliment these papers. Here you see the large soccer ball he formatted and cut for me. (He said, "Oh yay! A project!" - yes, the weekend was *that* blah.... )

Featurning the Soccer page from the Reminisce series of paper as well as Eyelet outlet Brads, all of which you can purchase through Tina, I think it turned out pretty well. If you follow the links to the Reminisce paper, you can see this boy's big brother in his football garb... just saying. ;-)

In case you were missing them

here's another layout featuring the two cutest grandkids in the world!  Saturday night I participated in a one-hour crop over at Sisterhood of Scrap. It was so much fun! I'm glad I was able to stay awake for it. :-)

The entire month of January, these two delighted in dumping the dog's toys out of this basket. Their mom finally decided enough was enough, put them in the basket and we took their picture!

Another graduation layout

Rebecca is not the first of my kids to graduate. The first one to have an "official" graduation is my oldest son. He graduated high school in 2002. My husband just remarked that it was 10 years ago... wow. You don't think of someone who graduated 10 years ago as a kid.. but he's our kid!

Using Reminisce graduation papers from Tina's Scrapbooking, some Bazzil cardstock and a few other goodies, it's great to finally get this photo and his original invitation out of the frame and into safekeeping in my scrapbook.

No longer stalled

I know this may surprise some of you, my readers, but I do have other subjects besides my grandkids and my dog! I actually have children. :-)

Here's a layout of my beautiful girl. She's graduating from Briercrest College and Seminary in Saskatchewan next month with her four-year Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies degree. We're so proud of her and looking forward to what her future holds!

The tag you'll recognize from a couple of days back, but the paper is from the Scrappin Sports line sold at Tina's Scrapbooking!

Thanks for checking this out. I did a challenge over at Scrapshotz using this layout wherein I tried my hand at Glimmer Mist..  It didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. I obviously need moe practice.

In the meantime, have a scrap-happy day!

I can't believe it's been this long

since I posted something! It's been a very busy week for some reason. I have a layout on my desk that I let STALL on me and can't figure out how to bring it back to life! LOL

I thought I'd cleanse my palette and what better way to do that than with Sketch 9-12 from S:CY this week! It's a lovely little sketch that really lends itself to many interpretations. You can find it at the site but here's my rendition of it.

Why not pop over to the S:CY blog and check out all the other takes on the sketch!

Staying cool in the pool!

Did you have a good weekend? We're having freaky weather here these days - I don't know what happened to Spring, but they're calling for a humidex of 30ยบ Celcius this week. Yikes!

What better way to start thinking about the warm seasons approaching than to scrap some fun, summer pics. Featuring not only a photo from last summer, but some of last year's delicious Echo Park "Summertime" collection, this layout was done for a challenge at Sisterhood of Scrap. Check it out here!

Quick tag

I'm babysitting one of my little friends today so don't have a lot of time to post but wanted to share a little black and white tag I made yesterday. It was done in response to a challenge at Sisterhood of Scrap (Antarctica)

I'm going to use it on a graduation layout. I have a couple to scrap this year!

Do you like tags? I'm starting to like them more and more... they are handy dandy little embellishments that work perfectly with whatever project I'm doing - whether card, altered item or layout!

Those eyes..

One thing my granddaughter is often complimented on is her eyes. I just loved this photo that we took in January. She had her hair pulled back into a ponytail and just looked so demure and grown up. She was actually washing a sinkful of tupperwear and having a whale of a time with water and bubbles!

This paper line is appropriately called "Gabrielle". It's a Bo Bunny collection from last year. I did this layout in response to the challenge posted at Sisterhood of Scrap for this leg of the Amazing Race. Check it out!

I loved the soft browns against the bright blue of her eyes. What do you think?

Have a scrap happy day!

Moo

This morning I made some "moo" cards. Have you ever heard of them? I never had. Apparently they are kind of common in some circles. They are tiny business cards exactly one half size of an ATC (artist trading card) so are 1.25x3.5 inches.

I made them for a swap at Sisterhood of Scrap this month where, as you may know, we are being challenged using "The Amazing Race" as a theme. It's been quite intriguing so far and I encourage you to pop over there if you get a chance!

The moo cards had to be "travel theme" and the hardest part for me was not having enough room on the tiny cards!

So, tell me what you think!  Have you ever heard of a "moo card"???

I'm going to use the ones I receive on layouts... :-)... That should be fun, hey?

Short and sweet

I didn't think I had anything for you today but this morning recalled the LO I did on Friday for a tag at Scrapshotz.  It wasn't supposed to be a race but everyone finished very quickly so it was over in two days!

Here's another one of my darling grandson. He was wearing his jeans and a skull sweater he received for Christmas. What a "tough" little guy. :-)

Hope you all have a scrap, happy day!

Want to hear something freaky?  I had this all set up to post this morning all by itself but when I turned on my computer on Wednesday, there it was! I nearly had a heart attack! Everything is supposed to be revealed on the S:CY blog first. Oh dear! I had to take it all down and re-put it up this morning. So, if there's any confusion or weirdness.. let's blame it on the blogger gremlins, shall we?
Without further explanations or adieu, here's Sketch 8-12 from Sketches: Creatively Yours!

This time our layout was created by Ali MacDonald, site owner. I love the way she hand draws her sketches - gives me hope that maybe I can draw my own someday instead of "winging it" all the time! LOL

And here's my interpretation

It's quite rare that I have ever had baby Hugo fall asleep on me. It seems that he's always on his way somewhere or cuddling with his mamma.... He truly is his mom's boy, but I have to say that I truly treasured  having these few quiet moments with him.

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm off tomorrow to scrapbook with my local gals. Hopefully working on dh's 50th birthday book or some of those little tag books I shared yesterday!
Chat at ya later!

Well.. it's "almost" a miracle

I was driving home from the chiropractor this morning when I remembered that I'd promised to show you a miracle this morning... Well, it's "almost" a miracle.

I am helping a friend with ideas for her art classes for kids in foster care. She wants them to make a mini album. Now, I am not a mini album kind of girl, that's for sure, but this week in the spirit of "anything for the kids", I went looking.

I found this video and was inspired enough to make a simple prototype!

Of course it needs a lot of finishing up (and it took me and my four left thumbs more than 10 minutes to make) but I think I'm going to make a few of these quick little gems to display at Tina's.

I'll show you when I really "finish" one. :)

Hope you liked this idea and give it a try. Please show me if you do!

I'll bet you thought I forgot!

Remember this?  Well, I haven't forgotten! I did draw a name from all those nice people who took the time to search the blog and find the layout I messed up on.

Strangely enough, my dh looked at the layout and thought I meant to do the title as it was. He just thought I forgot the comma. I think it's amusing that Sara couldn't find the layout - considering it featured her! LOL

The layout was called "Was This This Tassel, Really Worth The Hassle?"  I did fix it for my own sake and put a comma between the two "this"s so Sara when you see it, you'll see that it's been corrected. :-)

Well, without further adieu, the person whose name was drawn is none other than my good friend "H" who has an invisible presence on the web. She doesn't blog. She doesn't have a facebook account. She's very rarely been sighted by her online friends. I, however, am one of those who have been privileged to meet her in real life.

Since she doesn't scrapbook, the usual RAK couldn't be sent so I had to come up with something different. It took me a while but I settled on this. Although she may not be able to use this prize, her family will put it to good use I'm sure. :-)

"H" enjoy your day and be on the lookout for a cute little owl in your mailbox. :-)

~~~~
On another note, I'm working on a project FAR outside my comfort zone today. I hope that tomorrow I'll be able to show you. Stay tuned... a miracle may occur. ;-)
Last week
I finished off the Sisterhood of Scrap challenges for February. This last challenge was the hardest. Jackie reminded us of the dangers of high blood pressure. She asked  us to use ribbon in five different ways on our layouts to represent our arteries and veins that transport blood through out bodies. Here's what I came up with:
I chose to use ribbon in the border under the photo, a tulle flower, ribbon "leaves", a ribbon pull on the journal card, and a white ribbon border to add texture and dimension to the side of the photo.
This my adorable grand-daughter at her Christening in May 2010.
I hope you enjoy today's layout. :-)
Have a scrap-happy day!
Couldn't resist
I was just browsing around on the internet this afternoon and came across a poem written by a lady named Cathy Cardell. I knew right away what photo I wanted to scrap. This is my grandson when he was only an hour or two old. The poem really touched my heart. I hope it blesses you today.
The journalling reads:
Wean Me Gently
by Cathy Cardall
I know I look so big to you,
Maybe I seem too big for the needs I have.
But no matter how big we get,
We still have needs that are important to us.
I know that our relationship is growing and changing,
But I still need you.
I need your warmth and closeness,
Especially at the end of the day
When we snuggle up in bed.
Please don't get too busy for us to nurse.
I know you think I can be patient,
Or find something to take the place of a nursing;
A book, a glass of something,
But nothing can take your place when I need you.
Sometimes just cuddling with you,
Having you near me is enough.
I guess I am growing and becoming independent,
But please be there.
This bond we have is so strong and so important to me,
Please don't break it abruptly.
Wean me gently, because I am your mother,
and my heart is tender.
Isn't that sweet?
I used this layout to fulfill a challenge over at Sisterhood of Scrap. This month they are having the Amazing Race - Sisterhood Style!  It's a really fun concept. I hope you'll pop over and check it out!
First Sketch!
Hi everyone,
Today is an exciting day! It's not only my hubby's 50th birthday, but it's also the day that the new design team is featured for the first time over at S:CY!  Here is my interpretation of sketch #7-12 (seen below):
Sketch 7-12 designed by Ann Seleshanko the Senior Designer at S: CY
If you decide to try this sketch as well, don't forget to link it to this morning's S:CY blog post so we all can see! Let me know and tell them I sent you. ;-)
Have a great weekend!
A couple of new projects
March is here like a LION!!  I hope that means it's going out like a lamb. :-)
Hi everyone, I've been madly working to finish up the February challenges over at Sisterhood of Scrap and using some of the fun paper I got in my last DT haul  from Tina's Scrapbooking  I love it when Tina gives me paper that pushes me out of any sort of "rut" I may be tempted to find myself in! LOL
This first layout is using the very new and very sweet Imaginisce Spring 2012 release "Hippity Hop"  You'll be seeing more of this sweet paper in the coming weeks, that's for sure! It's adorable.
I used the Sisterhood of Scrap challenge #10 - sign 4 of a stroke is headaches. We were to use a photo that was a distinct headshot. I found these older photos of Hannah that suited the paper and the challenge fairly well, I thought.
This particular layout was done using the new hockey collection by Karen Foster I used it to do another Sisterhood of Scrap challenge - this time Challenge #11 - swirls. The fifth sign of a stroke is dizziness. I used metal swirls (really ornament hooks from the $ store!) behind each skate to represent this.
This last layout for today is of my sweet grand-daughter Gabby and her friend here at Nana's house, Bekah. They were modelling hats made my a good friend of mine this past Christmas. I used the LYB Winter Twig collection from Tina's. I also completed another SOS challenge. This time it was #12 - overweight.
Before I leave you this morning I also want to mention that over at the S:CY blog, we're featuring  an extra special Guest Designer for this month... none other than Jennifer Wilson of Simple Scrapper!
Be sure to check the S:CY blog to meet Jennifer and see some of her wonderful creations and inspiration.
Don't forget to check in tomorrow to see the very first sketch I worked on for S:CY and my interpretation of it! I may have a little surprise in store for you too.
